I'm feeling more confident as a caregiver after the check-in with my advocate. He gave me good ideas on how to be a more responsible caregiver by taking time for myself and being able to say "no" to things that are taking time away from me. I feel confident about being able to put this advice and practice into real-world situations. I'm feeling better about myself both physically and emotionally.
After my check in this evening with my advocate, I feel an incredible sense of accomplishment, optimism, hope, and relief. I'm so thankful. This has really helped me put so many things into perspective and it's like I'm looking at everything through fresh new eyes. Clear eyes. And it feels wonderful—it feels great. I am optimistic and hopeful, but I have a sense of accomplishment.
I just got done with my check-in and I'm super excited to keep moving on. The biggest takeaway was adding little bits and pieces of practices each time. I'm already working toward my first goal and now my second one is three guilts that I need to get rid of. I was feeling out of control and I'm gaining more control. It's giving me more confidence in myself which I've honestly never had that.
I just checked in with my advocate and it’s great seeing somebody—especially when that somebody tells you "hey, you’re doing a great job," and providing you with future suggestions on how to make your world make your life a little more steady. The fact that they take a genuine interest in me and my situation, knowing that they're there to provide me with support and tips, is a wonderful feeling.
I think that it's very interesting to sit and talk to somebody very specifically about your role as a caregiver and honestly express your frustrations and feelings and the things you feel guilty about. It's a very supportive environment and makes you feel very supported. It gives you a different way to think about the whole caretaker environment and beyond.
